Topic: Dansguardian - Bannedsitelist Problem

I installed Dansguardian on the latest version of SME 7 with a fresh install and it works, but it's not reading the blocked sites manually typed in or the blacklist include files from bannedsitelist.

Any ideas?

Did you restart Dansguardian afer making config changes ?

yes, I have also rebooted the server several times for various other reasons

Don't forget that the browser will cache pages without fetching and so being filtered. You need to flush the caches and force reloads.  most browsers / windoze crtl f5.

it sounds perhaps stupid, but did you put the right proxy settings into your brouwser.

SME also is a NAT router, if you did not disable that you can brouwse the internet without proxy settings without being filtered.


also SME has an internal Proxy server. even if you configured that it will not filter.

As far as i know you need the ip adres of your server as proxy server and port 8080 as proxy port

For internet explorer:
go to tools
internet options
click on the tab connection
click on the button lan settings
checkmark the use proxy.....
fill in the info as above.

Click all ok, to be sure restart your brouwser.

now test it.

In the dansguardian conf file dansguardianf1 check that

groupmode=1

it's near the begenning of the file

save the file


after that

/etc/init.d/dansguardian restart
In your browser

the proxy should be:

your server ip or proxy.your domain    (you can chech that in the server-manager tab "check configuration"
port: 8080

unselect "find the proxy automaticaly" in your browser

try to connect to sex.com

you should see the denied access page
