[Announce] SARK/SAIL Release Guide
« on: August 19, 2007, 10:05:53 PM »
HI,

Lots of you have expressed confusion as to which of the various asterisk/SAIL rpms you should install.  To try and help we've published a release-table here...

Kind Regards

That is a nice imrovement, but to improve readability I would suggest a slight change in layout:

Split the version into two headers and make two tables:

Sail-2.1.4
table1: ISDN BRI
table2: None ISDN BRI

Sail-2.1.5
table1: OSLEC
table2: No OSLEC

that way all information will probably fit on to most screen resolutions without scrolling left-to-right.

Hi Selintra,

What is the correct upgrade method? Do I need to uninstall the existing Asterisk and Sail rpms? Then install the latest ones or can I just do a rpm -Uvh for them all? Also, does it matter if SAIL?Asterisk is running? Thanks.

Del

Hi Del

Usually rpm -Uvh is fine for the asterisk rpms (unless we tell you otherwise in the release notes on the docs site).

Yes you should shut asterisk down while you do the upgrade.

SAIL should be installed with yum localinstall --enablerepo=base

Hi Selintra,

I have upgraded my rpms to the following:
selintra-sail-2.1.14-505.noarch.rpm
smeserver-asterisk-1.2.10-10.i686.rpm
smeserver-asterisk-zappri-MPP-1.2.13-1.i686.rpm

Where I am a little confused is the zappri one, in the downloads there is:
smeserver-asterisk-zappri-MPP-1.2.18-2.i686.rpm - 18-Aug-2007 16:57  1.1M
and
smeserver-asterisk-zappri-MPP-1.2.13-1.i686.rpm - 05-Jul-2007 14:02  2.7M

The date indicates that the smeserver-asterisk-zappri-MPP-1.2.18-2.i686.rpm is the newest but the version number indicates that smeserver-asterisk-zappri-MPP-1.2.13-1.i686.rpm is the latest, at least it does to me seeing as 1.2.13-1 is a lower number than 1.2.18-2. Please correct me if I am looking at this wrong :) and if I am I apologize.

Del

Hi Del

1.2.13 is an earlier release than 1.2.18 but, 1.2.13 runs OSLEC whereas 1.2.18 does not.  This is due to the fact that when we fitted OSLEC, 1.2.13 was the latest zaptel version that the OSLEC guys had patches for (this has changed now and we will probably do a 1.2.18 OSLEC variant).   None of this matters if you aren't running any TDM or HFC boards, in which case, you should go ahead and fit 1.2.18.

You will also see from the tables that we recommend 1.2.20 over 1.2.10.  1.2.10 is a little out of date now and the asterisk loaders (selintra items) are markedly superior in 1.2.20.  Therefore we would recommend you go to 1.2.20.  Finally, we would recommend you take SAIL up to -507 which has some good new features in it and several useful bugfixes.

Kind Regards

S

Hi Selintra,

I tried to install 1.2.20 rpm and got this error:
Quote
error smeserver-asterisk-1.2.20-8.i686.rpm: MD5 digest: BAD Expected (1267e46642

error: smeserver-asterisk-1.2.20-8.i686.rpm cannot be installed
I have tried downloading it again but still get the same error.

Hi,

I like to download smeserver-asterisk-zappri-MPP-1.2.20 from:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/smeserver/contribs/selintra/RPMS/AsteriskForSail-2.1.14/None-ISDN/
but can´t find it ?

fpause, this rpm does not exist.  Check the table again, a small error in printing has been corrected by Selintra, the highest version of smeserver-asterisk-zappri-MPP is version 1.2.18.
