inbound maillog
« on: August 23, 2007, 05:12:28 PM »
hello fine smefolks,

is there a way to 'enable' a maillog for all incoming mail? something like a general forward (after spam has been filtered..) to a user named inmaillog?? I did search the forums, but nothing seems to come up.. (inbound mail log, incoming forward mail)

thanks,

Michel - Gadis

Baring in mind the above is a all or nothing, you cannot just capture incoming (after spam checks)

OK, I DID a search and I DID already install and use the user maillog, I just wasn't aware it would receive a copy of all incoming mail, too.

AND, in my case, it would be very convenient to have mail going OUT being sent to one log, and mail coming IN to another. but I guess at this point it isn't possible.

Would it be possibile to make this system add a specific header to either incoming OR outgoing mails, so we could separate them easily? the From: header often gets forged, so what could be the alternatives?

ciao ciao from Italy, Michel

Use filters to discriminate emails from or to.
In webmail you can use ingo filters, and move mails goin out to one specify folder. You can use outlook to do same thing

Hello Normando

unfortunately as I said, we receive a lot of 'forged' mail which appears to be sent from 'gadis.it', and a lot of mails are sent CC to ourselves, so it is not so trivial to make good filters.

the mail is not simply going to a mailbox, but to an internal collaboration system so it has to be quite foolproof..

ciao ciao,
Michel
