I do not think you have read the introduction to SME Server properly as SME Server is a Linux server, running Apache, MySQL and PHP (which basically is LAMP as well).
I don't think installing LAMP is unnecessary thing to do on SME Server! Try reading the manuals to get a broader idea on what is SME Server.

Yep that is the general idea. But if things do not work be prepared to read the manuals, wiki and search the forums as many basic questions are answered there. If you still run in to problems with SME Server do not hesitate to ask your question in one of the SME Server forums, but try and choose the one that best suites your question.

I never installed on SME server but i did on other type of linux.

take a look at www.ispconfig.com

that's a great pakkage, there are also installation instructions, and if you take the instructions for sent os, i think you do not have to change a lot of the path of those instructions.
