7.2 installer 'loops' at 'enter system name'
« on: September 24, 2007, 02:40:53 PM »
Hi,

This is a tricky one.. The installer of 7.2 hangs at the page where one needs to enter the system name. I can enter the name, but upon going to the next page, it refreshes/stays on the page. The messages log tells me the system name has been changed, but i can not proceed.

Either I need to find out why it 'loops', or manually enter the rest of the db config settings.

As always, any help is appreciated, especially I'm sitting behind the server right now, looking at this loop thing and not making any progress.....

Thanks,
guest

sure :-) will do, just looking for quick help right now. The next page is setting the local IP address, so it seems a ethernet driver problem.

The server has: e100, e1000 and Mii loaded (lsmod). Dmesg shows all drivers being loaded.

Any special stuff for Intel drivers perhaps?

Thanks,

Are you perhaps using one of the names like www, ftp, mail, proxy or something like that? I believe they are reserved but I do not know if this is the case nor do I know if this is checked in the installer.

Thanks, but no. Following the correct naming convention. It definitely seems to be a NIC driver issue.... Just wondering if there is a work around or that maybe drivers are available for the current kernel stock 7.2. On the other hand, it seems that all drivers are loaded, maybe just not the exact correct onces for the NIC hardware.

Anybody please?

Remove or disable your network cards?

Yeah, trying to replace them/it and test. Just need to find another NIC.

What makes you say it's a NIC issue? Please post your evidence to the bug tracker when you open a ticket and please state whats already been tried/tested in the forums. Thanks.

It was the NIC, replaced it with a standard 3COM and it worked perfectly. Will add the info to the existing (see above) bug.

Thanks all.
