Disable SME as a Mail Server
« on: October 02, 2007, 08:03:28 PM »
Dear All,
I am a newbie of Linux.
Please kindly help me.
First off all, my company is using a very werid System.
Company email is handle by an outsource hosting company (Email_Host)
Company has a PC as a Mail Transport Agent. (mercery32, www.pmail.com) (MTA)
We set a MTA because boss would like the mangement team can be able to read the email of their underline.

ISP Broadband connected to our Company like this.
ISP -> ADSL Modem From ISP -> Linksys Router from ISP -> Comapany's Hardware Firewall Gateway - Office PCs

Which Linksys Router from ISP (192.168.10.1) set Comapany's Hardware Firewall Gateway's IP as DMZ with 192.168.10.2

Comapany's Firewall Gateway as a DHCP with IP range 172.16.1.1-254 or all PCs

MTA handling 3 different email domain "ABC.com" and "BCD.com"

"ABC.com" control by Email_Host
"BCD.com" Host by Company BCD.

Company BCD using SPF
need to authenticate SMTP on outgoing emails. We must use "BCD.com"
own smtp server. With this, other server will know that the message came from name@BCD.com came from authentic user.

Everything was working fine until............one the The Hardware Firewall Gateway broken down.......

I set up a SME Server to take over the Hardware Firewall Gateway immediately.

The SME server works fine. except..some email got rejected....
"ABC.com" emails works fine.
"BCD.com" emails got the following problems.

<name@BCD.com>:
Connected to "IP of BCD.com" but sender was rejected.
Remote host said: 550 "Company's IP" does not pass SPF requirements for domain name@BCD.com

actually I do not need the SME Server to work as a Mail Server.
i try to "disable qmail" but  this will make all my email did not sent out.
Does anyone have idea of this matter? is there any way to "DISABLE" SME's Mail System but and will not cause my email stuck at SME without send out?

Thank you very much for all your help in adavnce.

Best Regards
Windhk.

Why not add 'Company's IP' to the SPF record for BCD.com so you won't have this problem?

Finally i found out what's the problem of it.
After I have Disable the SMTP Proxy, everything works fine.
I did not add Company IP to SPF of "BCD.com" it is because "BCD.com" is under control of one of our overseas business partner.
