E-mail ONLY??
« on: March 01, 2000, 08:21:21 AM »
Hello,

I run a small internet hosting facility. I need to move my email to a seperate machine and I was wondering if e-smith could handle the task. I was looking to just use the email server and maybe samba or whatever the local domain server would be to share files locally on the lan (mostly windows machines).

Can I have more than one domain accepting mail? If so can I have aliases on different domains to different users? ex. sales@domain.one -> phil sales@domain.two -> joe

Any info or help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Phil

Hello Philip,

e-smith is a great solution for email and Windows file sharing via Samba.

With e-smith 4.0 (due out soon)  you can have multiple domains accepting mail, but each account maps to a single POP mailbox, no matter which domain it is sent to. So "sales@domain.one" and "sales@domain.two" cannot go to two different users.

Best regards,

Is there no way possible to do this?? This seems like it should be doable. I have different domains and I am sure each of them want their own sales@domain.com so how can I make it work?? Different mail program?

Thanks,
Phil

No, it is possible to do this, just not with the standard e-smith product.

You will need to modify the system to make it work. You will need to read qmail documentation about about virtual domains - goto http://www.qmail.org/ for that, and you will need to read about customising your e-smith setup - goto http://www.e-smith.org/custom/ to do that.
