I have a SME 7.2 box operating in Private Server and Gateway mode. It is in Private mode since I do not have a true domain name for the server, do not have a website running, do not have a static IP and I do not have email going to user in-boxes on the server. All staff have user@ispdomain.com addresses that they use. There are 8 people using this box - all use the "admin" account (the only user) and password to access the primary i-bay. Various staff and trusted third parties use the primary i-bay to retrieve/store documents. I've been running this way for years. However, a problem has crept up that I don't know how to deal with. Since the box is in Private Server mode, all outgoing email (mostly from MS Outlook clients) flows thru the SME SMTP server. Some staff and clients have reported delays in sending / receiving emails. I'm now getting a very large number of deferrals due to reason 421 - "Remote host said: 421 #4.4.5 Too many connections from your host". I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the SME box, but since I do not gain anything from using the internal SMTP server, I was wondering if there was anyway to disable this function. Can a user send email without it being trapped and processed by qmail??? Thanx.
