Disable compression on backup?
« on: October 17, 2007, 06:30:36 PM »
I recently started creating complete backups instead of using individual automated DAR-schemes for ibays/users and the like.

Now the problem is that backing up ~80GB on a coppermine is really slow (usb-disk can have the activity-LED off for 10-15 seconds) and takes up a lot of ressources which causes mail to be delivered with more delay, slower indexing etc.

Is there a way to disable, or turn down to minimal, the compression for the in build backup-function?

(bonus question)
While we are at it; is it possible to exclude a directory? I don't see any reason to backup my CD-collection when its already on several other machines.

I ssh into the box, log in as admin and perform the backup that way.

Thank you

Can you be clear on which "Backup system" you are referring too ? For example there are a couple of contribs using Darrell's (smeserver-dar) and JPL's modified e-smith-backup with dar, then there is our built in USB Back via the console or the current backup via server-manager  > backup or restore panel. Thanks.

I'm sorry If i wasn't clear enough.

I ssh into the box, log in as admin and perform the backup that way.

That's the in build 'Console' interface I'm referring to.

Thank you for your response!

OK so you mean in the console, menu number 8 "Perform backup to USB device" at the moment there is no db tweak, you should raise a New Feature Request (NFR).

Thanks.
