Thanks so much for your assistance. I suppose that I should have started off my original post by saying: that I am as new to "anything Linux" as they come. A complete noobie in factc(coming from a WIN_XP enviro)
As far as running vmware-tools-config.pl goes. This paragraph is copied directly from their knowledge base:
Note: VMware Player is meant to play pre-built virtual machines. The person who creates the pre-built virtual machine includes VMware Tools if it is needed. If you want to add VMware Tools to a virtual machine, then you should use a VMware product like Workstation or VMware Server, which allows you to alter virtual machines.
We probably need to establish exactly what you are doing.
From my reading of your posts and a little guess work, you have:
- installed VMPlayer on a Windows workstation (XP I assume)
- installed a prebuilt SMEServer 7.2 Virtual Machine
- installed the suggested updates via the Software Installer panel on server-manager
- are unable to access the server-manager panel as you would expect after the update
Updates like that should NOT affect access to the server-manager panels, but if you went into the Remote Access panel and changed some of the items there, or did a reconfigure from the Admin Console (the text based menu within the vmware console) and changed from server-only to server-gateway (or private server-gateway), then you could well have restricted access.
All the stuff about vmware-config.pl is if you are running vmware-server on your SMEServer.
If we can work out where you are, and what you are doing, we'll be able to help a little better (I hope).
