That's an artefact of the way that fetchmail is interacting with diald. When 4.0 comes out a newer version of diald is used, and fetchmail is set up a little differently, so you shouldn't see it anymore.
I'm sorry, but I don't know how you can change e-smith 3.1 to avoid this little problem. You could speak to your ISP about using SMTP instead of fetchmail if you need to do something about it. Details are in the e-smith manual.
