How do i find SME's MAC Code?
« on: November 11, 2007, 09:21:11 PM »
Hi,

I am wondering how i can find SME's MAC Code.
Using a program called 'Angry IP Scanner', I get:  00-00-00-00-00-00
Can this be right?

I have 'MAC Address Filtering' enabled on my Router, and it wont accept the above
MAC Code, therefore the SME Server has no Connectivity with the outside world!

I am running two SME 7 boxes (7.2) and both have the same MAC Code.

Thanks, Rob
Regards, Rob

Type ifconfig in a terminal window. The MAC address will be on the first line for each available network interface.

I know you have found an answer to your question, but for future use try netscan, it is free and needs no installation, I run it from a USB stick  :-P It is a Windows program but lists all computers on the network showing their IP address, MAC address and any shares on that machine. You can even use it to check open ports  8) You can download it here:

That might be a nice tool, but it certainly is overkill in this situation. On top of that most administrators are not very happy with people scanning networks...

But you are still scanning the network when you use it! :-)

Ya, the scanner i used just gave me 00-00-00-00-00-00 which didn't seem right.
Although using it to detect and find out the MAC Codes for the other clients on the networked worked fine.

Strange!
