Vista can see XP after update for a time...
« on: November 15, 2007, 10:24:36 PM »
Hi,

I read windows Vista can not see XP machines on network neighbourhood because XP does not use LLTD Responder.
Vista can see SME server no problem there.

I recently ran updates for the SME server and guess what .... I can see XP machines! Strange though after a day or so ..
no more XP machines untill I run another update and reconfigure and reboot the server.

I do not think its a bug in SME so I did not submit a bug. The reason I think its not SME at fault is because I allready had
read about the need to install LLTD Responder program on each Xp computer for network neighbourhood to work again.

Just wondering how come after a day or so can i no longer see XP machines..... weird. If any of you think its a bug  I will
submit  a bugreport asap. Just not so sure what to do with it though I would really like to be able to see XP machines in my
network without doing a whole lot of correcting XP machines.

Kind regards,

Jan

Found the problem. Someone in the network used to use Ubuntu. Browser election problem.
This started when vista first showed up in my network. Comined with rumors about XP clients
not having LLTD responders which now were 'needed' on all pc's put me on the wrong track.

Still don't know what LLTD responders actually do and or are neede for.

All better now thanks Ray!

Jan
