Hello everybody,

I'm trying to setup an external access to my mails from outside.

First I've tried it over Webmail, it doesn't work
My router/ firewall allows and forwards port 443 to SME, but no way.
Is Webmail available only internally or do I have to allow it somehow in SME?
Where can I look for the reason?

Or is there a better way to access the mails from outside? IMAPS or POPS?
Also, where can I enable this? In the Webmin one can only enable/  disable POP and IMAP but not the secure ones.

SME is running in "server-mode".

You have to activate HTTPS Webmail in the admin console and then you can access webmail externally by xx.xx.xx.xx/webmail

If you want someone to help, you'll need to provide more detail than "it doesn't work".

When I try to access Webmail, get the certificate page. That's all.

The firewall rule is activated, it shows that is also allowed.

After that, my router disconnects the PPPoE connection.

Just want to know if this issue is related to SME's firewall or to my router or whatever.

And just want to know where can I have a look on SME to see what happens.

Or: what alternatives are there? POPS, IMAPS? How to enable them?

have you tested webmail for a station local to the SME server? Best to know if issues are server related or network/firewall related before guessing and turning a typo into a really horrible mess!

Because POP and IMAP (non-secure) should not be used.

I suspect something wrong in your router setting because an external access will not cause your router disconnects.

How about if you access other https website from external? i.e server-manager

POPS and IMAPS available by SME but you have to Change Email Access Settings in server manager to make it available because it is turned off by default. Don't forget to open portforwarding from your router to POPS and IMAPS port on sme.

Well, the rule in the firewall is to allow and forward port 443 to the mail-server.
And I can see that is green (allowed).

Didn't tried the server-manager, as far as I know you can't access it from outside, right?
BTW: I can access my router's interface from outside thru SSL.

About POPS and IMAPS, where can I enable them? In the server-manager you can only enable the unsecure versions and Webmail.

The way I access Webmail from outside is I use a different port forwarded to the server with Webmail.

for example my fire wall could map port 8400 (or whatever you want) to internalserver:443

Then I access my Webmail as:
https://MyExternalAddess.com:8400/webmail

this works great for me.

Alternatively, have you tried ProxyPass?
