Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded.
« on: November 26, 2007, 08:55:11 PM »
I managed to connect my domain user to my new SME server, and I managed to make my new profile point to my old one ( See this thread : http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=39208.0 ).

HOWEVER, IE6 was unable to connect to ANY SSL sites, so I did more debugging. Nothing serious, just checking my settings, and doing a windows update.

I discovered I was no longer an administrator of my computer, so I logged off, logged in as the computer admin, to discover I cannot put myself as computer admin since my user isn't listed in the list of users.

I logged off, and now, when I try to log on to my Windows XP, I get :

"Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network, or that your network is functioning correctly. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator. "

I tried this KB of Microsoft :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837115

And it didn't fix anything.

Has anyone got a clue ???

I want to work :-(

My new theory is that during the IE6 debugging, my profile got corrupted in one way or another.

After all, I am running off my old profile, so perhaps something went wrong.

I am currently copying all the files from my old profiles to a new profiles I created by logging on with my SME user credentials, after removing the profile redirection.

Hopefully, I will only need to reenter my e-mail accounts (19) and my e-mail rules (over 200) to get everything back under control.

Victory !

The technique worked, and I didn't even lose my rules... I only had to recreate my e-mail accounts, and fix my rules to point to them.

Conclusion : This problem had NOTHING to do with SME !
