PXE boot to BARTPE
« on: December 04, 2007, 12:25:08 AM »
Instead of a client PC booting from the local hard disk, they can boot from the network and load up BARTPE (served from SME SERVER).
BARTPE is a LIVECD WINDOWS environment & a staple in many admin's toolbox. I use it to install WINXP & VISTA with UNATTEND (no input from me) but it has other uses.

This was quick & dirty from my notes. Post corrections here, I'll make in WIKI.

Very cool. Thank you!

Will test when I'll get the time.

Hi,
I followed the wiki and I get this error on the client:
Quote
Could not find kernel image: foo
I see it on the default file but don't know what to replace.

Thanks,

This means you're real close.

if you only have 1 "label", replace foo with: bartpe
otherwise replace foo with the "label" you want it to default to. This is the label it goes to if it timesout or if you just hit "enter" when it asks for a label.

In any case, it's irrelevant if you type in the label at the prompt, when it asks for an image type: bartpe

AFAIK, PXE is only limited to the amount of RAM installed on the client pc. Either increase the RAM or decrease the ISO image.

159MB isn't large. It would seem you should be able to boot this.

You may have to look in a different direction. Post your error message.

this message is :

"The INF file b ° ° c # # is corrupted or missing, 21 status."

And if it is possible that it works, could you give me the  process?
How to increase or decrease the RAM of the ISO image?
