Sail and Autosense Fax Extension
« on: December 19, 2007, 11:36:34 PM »
Hi Selintra, just a question: If I create an extension and define username=fax then this extension always takes all incoming faxes on any trunkline and Autosense FAX Extension in Globals has no effect?

Just to clearify because I have defined multiple iax-modems each belonging to an extension and I have named the first of those "fax". So sending a fax to any of those extensions (almost) always lead the fax to the fist extension named "fax". After renaming the extension to "faxs" I can send faxes to the correct extensions. Autosense FAX Extension in Globals has always been set to some other number and FAX Detect Delay to 20, because if I have multiple faxnumbers I don't want fax detection.

Thanks
Manuel

Hi Manuel,

"fax" is a special extension in asterisk.  Essentially, if asterisk detects a fax on an inbound TDM line it will attempt to find an extension called "fax" and it will resume execution at that extension.  Creating your own "fax" extension is really exploiting a validation loophole in SAIL.  Theoritically extensions should always be 4 digits.

We'll take your word for what happens when you create such an extension, it's not something that ever occurred to us so we've never tried it.

Usually for multiple fax to multiple fax destinations we would recommend leaving fax detection turned off on the trunk (or DiD) and simply directing the trunk(s) directly to the fax extension(s).

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards

S

Do you know if fax will work with a Linksys SPA-3102 (inbound pstn) and then routing it to a Linksys PAP?

Is there anything that I need to know if the above is possible?

I am new to SAIL SME Server v8b6 and have been using SME for many years.
I have already done some research and only ask questions if I still can't work it out.

theoretically it should work.  In practice, we've no idea since we've never tried it.

Best
