Hi all,

Season's Greetings.

I am adding disks to a HP ML370 which has a Compaq SmartArray 641 raid controller. To expand the array for 3-6 disks I need to use the Array Controller Utility. The machine is currently SME 7.1 and is also to be upgraded to 7.2.

What I am attempting to decide is which version of the Array Configuration Utility to use? There are plenty built for various RHEL. I could either find something that looks like the 7.1 OR upgrade and then find something to work on 7.2 - but I need to know which CentOS maps to which RHEL to have a chance of this working.

Any hints or kicks in right direction appreciated.

Sorry - the above rambles somewhat. Blame the lunch, I do.

I need to know what versions of CentOS SME 7.1/2 are built on, and which RHEL these are equivalent to...?

stabilys

sme7.1 is based on CentOS 4.4
sme7.2 is based on CentOS 4.5

You can find this info in the README.txt file on the CD.

The "coming soon" sme7.3 is currently based on CentOS 4.6.

Go to the CentOS site to find what the equivalent RHEL releases are.

You can find this info in the README.txt file on the CD.

And in the "Announcements" forum. Who'd think to look there?

Well, not me - for one. For me Announcements=/=Technical specifications. Readme.txt=/= Technical specs either. I knew I had seen it somewhere but did not know where, hence the question.

I do not live and breathe the distro. I only look at it (or this forum) on the rare occasion that a problem arises, or due to issues (more frequent) with updates. I do not now keep CDs to hand as I install machines remotely via yum updates, much as I do with all the Debian boxes we run. I don't use or touch RedHat type stuff except for this distro, as I generally prefer Debian.

So thank you for the pointer, but I would not and did not consider looking at 'Announcements' for technical specifications.

And incidentally, a forum search did not produce 'Announcements' with that info.

Hi:

progress report for anyone who needs to do the same thing.

For the ML370, which has the HP Compaq 641 array controller, and with a Centos 4.xx-based SME Server, the following appears to work:

1. Use the Array Control Utility CLI version as follows: hpacucli-7.85-18.linux.rpm

This is of course available from the HP website.

2. This has a dependency on the compat-libstdc library, which can be met by:

yum --enablerepo=base install compat-libstdc++-296

3. Read the Fine Manual: c00729544.pdf (on HP website)

I have not given URLs since HP move everything around all the time.

The web-based GUI version does not want to run, and the CLI does the job.

These steps have worked so far on the SME 7.1 version that is currently running.

I will, after completing the array expansion, probably remove all of the above, on this production server.
