After SME 7.2 to 7.3, RAID array temperature high - coincidence?

I'm pretty sure this is just my bad luck, but since upgrading from SME 7.2 to SME 7.3 a week ago, I'm getting alerts (from Sme7Admin) about high hard disk temperatures. (Graph attached if I can figure out how to do it).
The box has been running fine since June 2007, and prior to the upgrade, hd temp never went above 37C. After the upgrade hd temp is running as high as 52C. I've verified that the ambient temperature at the computer has not been changed (ie: nobody threw a blanket over the machine. ;)
Has anyone else seen higher temps, or is it just my good fortune that the 4 disk Raid array is chosing this moment to die?
What sort of hd temps do others normally see (is 52C dangerous)?

I've noticed CPU load seems to be a little higher since the upgrade, but I don't think the difference is enough to explain the jump in hd temp.

Thanks,
Dan Rollo

id say 52 was too high but i ensure disks have airflow over em... on that note has a fan failed, slowed down, slipped/moved. Dust etc.

Hadn't thought about the fans. I'll check that. Thanks!

I'm having similar problems after the update (I just did it), I started receiving messages about the Rebuild Process and it seemed that it got stuck, so I rebooted the server but it never came back, and I had to do a hard boot!
Right now the system is checking the disks integrity. Soon I'll have more to troubleshoot!

Just an update: I checked for bad fans, and that is not the cause.

After closer examination of the sme7admin graphs, it does appear the heat build up directly relates to a load (the blue load line on the graph) running with higher utilization at times. The heat builds up when this load/process is running (whatever it is). It also seems odd that it takes a long time for the heat to build (from many hours to days), but the heat drops back down very quickly (in minutes) when this load drops.

I'm planning to slap another fan near the drives no matter what, as I don't think they should heat this easily. (The load I'm seeing is well under 40%).
