Installing LAME
« on: January 08, 2008, 09:28:57 AM »
Hi

 I'm using Kplaylist on my SME 7.3 server & want install LAME support so that it can do transcoding of my music to allow for lower bitrates to preserve bandwidth. So I have 2 questions;

1. Where would be the best place to download a RPM & which one should I use?

2. Where will this install the LAME executable, (I have to tell Kplaylist where it is installed)?

Thanks in advance!

Peter  :P

There is one in the dag repo

Code: [Select]
lame                    i386       3.97-1.el4.rf    dag               588 k
Check the wiki on how to add additional repo's.

William

IF I give advise.. It's only if it was me....

Thanks for that!  :P

However, I'm a Linux newbie, so I don't know where the LAME executable is installed. With Kplaylist I have to indicate the path, so can you advise me where it puts the executable for LAME?

Thanks,

Peter

The RPM is at http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/lame/lame-3.97-1.el4.rf.i386.rpm

I downloaded it to a windows machine and extracted it with 7-zip.

I then found that the lame executable is located in /usr/bin
