Best way to update SME Server 7.0 RC2 to SME Server 7.3 ???
« on: January 08, 2008, 05:15:04 PM »
Hello everyone,

I have a production server running on 7.0RC2 (I know it's not the best setup but when I install the server there was the only version we get !!!)
So I want to upgrade it to 7.3... Can I do this by YUM ??? Or it must safe to do this with ISO CD ?

So can I just update Spam Assassin and ClamAV parts on this server if is to hard to do the major update ???

Because the server received now a lot of SPAM because is outdated !!!!

Thanks for any help,

Snoopyski

My best recommendations:

1. BACKUP!
2. BACKUP!
3. BACKUP!
4. Perform the upgrade from CD if possible (internet lines tend to go down in the middle of on line upgrades sometimes :?)

 my two cents :

I tried by yum. it worked on one server from 7.2 to 7.3 , this server was really not customized at all, only joomla was installed on it.

It failed on another one who had some softwares installed on it : (joomla, backuppc, cacti , phpsysinfo etc.)

On that last one  I remember modifying yum.conf and repositories by hand, I was not surprised not succeeding the upgrade....  So what I did was to upgrade from the CD.   Worked well.  i think it is really better to do with the CD and then once up again doing a "install updates"

Read the FAQ re yum upgrading issues for installs older than v 7.2

Shouldn't be required if upgrading via CD as recommended.

That is true... but it involves a few risks, which might need you to travel to your client after all.
