Greetings,

I am running the SME 7.3 on a network with both Vista and XP machines to use as a file server/firewall/proxy/etc...

I have created an IBay and have it listed for everyone to read and write to it in the server-manager. I can access the drive to get to the data and I can change the data that is there, but when I try to save a new file to the server, it says I don't have permission to do so.

What is going on and how can I fix this?

Also, I need to change the admin password on the machine and can't remember how to do so in linux.

Ok, I got it so that I can access, read, write and create data on the drive.

Now, how can I set it up so I can have all 3 office computers can access the drive at the same time?

It is telling me that when one computer has the drive mapped that I can't map any of the other machines.

Ok, now something further.

I was able to connect two computers to the server using different unames and pwords. However, I have one more computer that I need to connect to the same drive and it says that there is someone already connected and won't let me.

It's not clear to me what you are trying to do.
Are you trying to map the same network drive from serveral Windows machines to your SME Box?
And are you mapping an ibay?


If so, show us exactly what you are doing.
The more info you provide will help more people help you.

Yes, I have 3 windows machines that I am trying to connect to the same folder in an Ibay. I can connect two of them, but not all three.

I.E. In the Ibay named "data" I have a folder called "files". It is the "files" folder I am attempting to map all three machines to. I must be able to maintain mappings from all three machines all the time.

Well,

You cannot map to a specific folder in an Ibay, just to the Ibay itself - in samba talk, that is the shared resouce.

So you want:

net  use X: \\servername\data

Also, did you create a folder in the Ibay named files, or is it the default files folder that is normally created in a Ibay?

Typically it's

\\servername\ibay\

no need to add \files - the ibay is the shared resource and not the files folder inside of it.

If you set the ibay public access via the web to NO ACCESS it hides the directory structure of the ibay so that the user is mapping straight to the files folder. Any other settings will show \files \html and \cgi-bin in the root of the ibay. If you want to map directly to \ibays\files then you need to limit the public access setting fo rthe ibay to "No Access" If you do not, then users will need to navigate pass the html and cgi-bin folders and into the files folder.
