sme 7.3 mail forwarding
« on: January 12, 2008, 05:10:20 AM »
Currently migrating users from sme qmail to exchange 2003. The exchange server once the migration is completed will receive mail for
whomever@abc.com and the firewall rule will direct all smtp mail
to the exchange server.  Currently all smtp mail for whomever@abc.com goes
to the sme server.  Users who have been migrated to exchange can not share
the same domain address space as it can only be routed to either the sme
server or the exchange server.  I don't see a way of doing this in the sme web interface.  In the cases of the users who are now on
exchange another smtp address(forward address) is used(whomever@abc.local) so they can
receive mail from the outside and inside, the exchange server accepts multiple smtp addresses.  If
I do not use this second domain address and forward mail the migrated users will not receive
their email, as abc.com mail goes to the sme server.  By  using
smtp forwarding(for their specific user account) a users email is being forwarded to the abc.local, this
worked great until the 7.3 update.  Since the sme server was updated to 7.3 a failure notice is received by the sender from qmail indicating it cannot find the host of abc.local.  I can ping the exchange server from the sme server and can telnet to the exchange server via port 25.  My first thought was to update the hosts.conf on the sme server even though it states not to do this.  The sme server(qmail) does not seem to know where to send mail for abc.local
(as indicated by the failure notice).  Has anyone else found this.  I filed a bug to bugzilla but they did not think it was an issue.
