Topic: the url could not be retrieved.... HELP

I have been running e-smith v 5.1 for some time. This morning I went to hit the web and found that the dns functions do not work. I can use IP's to navigate the web, but not a name for the url.
I have restarted the system, stopped and started squid and looked over the logs and configurations settings. It all seems good!
I searched the forums for any help, but could not find this problem. Read everything that I could find on dns tho.
Anyone with any clues on this problem?

This unfortunately had to be ready monday morning...   so i did a full install from scratch.
BUT if anyone has any input, i would still like to hear it. just in case
