General MAC and Linux PPTP question.
« on: January 25, 2008, 03:22:41 PM »

Hi All,

I think this is really just a general question. We have recently put in a SME 7.3 server which is doing well, however i have been told that some MAC users can connect.

I don't have full details yet hence this is a very general question.

Question: Is there any known problems with Mac connections to an PPTP connection on a SME server?

I have had a look on here and i can see that some have connected fine using  1)DigiTunnel PPTP client on Mac X

And this below.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While not "officially" supported, I've connected from a Titanium Powerbook to
an SME server via PPTP, using the built-in PPTP client in OS X 10.2.  (yes,
that's right - Apple includes a PPTP client in Jaguar, but it's not the
easiest thing to find).

Get a copy of 10.2 (you won't regret it - many improvements in system speed
and stability).  Then, find the Internet Connect application in the Apps
folder.  Open it, go to the file menu, and choose New VPN connection.

Enter the IP address of the SME server, your username and password, and
voila...

I don't have the MAC operating system information as yet which is a bit limiting on replys.

Would anyone have any pointers please,

Thank you and kindest regards to all.  :-P

If there are any known problems, they will have been reported via the Bug Tracker.

If you find any previously unknown problems, you'll report via the Bug Tracker, won't you?

I have a relative who is a die hard apple fan (nut) and she can vpn into my server without any problems. I trust this is what you are after.I wanted her to use openvpn contrib but couldn't get it to work. I will ask her about operating system et al.

Hi imcintyre

Thank you very much for your input, I appreciate it.

I can now connect fine without any problems now, However what i am finding is that although the PC's can get access to all shares on the SME box, the Mac just refuses to open any shares on the SME server.

This MAC can open other shares on workstations and on a Microsoft server. So i am scratching my head a little. but i am digging about looking for the answer  :-P

I don't know if this is a BUG or not to be honest i have no idea, But if you can tell me how you got your access to the SME shares then that would be just great.

Thank you for your help

Regards to you

I did not have any problems I recall. I had set up moinmoin to run in an ibay and set up the user in a group with write permissions to the ibay. the user did not complain of any problems but that was about 6 months ago maybe more. I will try to find out.
