I am trying to understand your question, sorry not to speak your language, it would be easier.
Do you want to backup an existing server to move data and users to another server?

- If correct. and your server has more than 2GB of data, you can use the backup to USB facilities in the console.  On a terminal attached to the server, log as admin and go to item number 8 (perform backup to USB divice). Then install SME on another server, and when asked during installation if you want to restore from a USB drive, say yes. For more information check the Wikis, in particular:
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:FAQ#Backups_.26_Restores
http://wiki.contribs.org/USBDisks (good information about formatting a USB drive)

- If your server has less than 2GB of data, you can use the backup/restore panel found in server-manager. Check:
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter10
http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_server_config

Otherwise, try to explain what you require in more detail.
thanks.

If it does not work out of the box, please fill in a Bug Report @ Bugzilla (http://bugs.contribs.org)  - check: http://wiki.contribs.org/Bugzilla_Help .  Thanks.

I think you may be asking to what extent the backup covers, and if it includes the config data necessary to allow users to login to the domain on the new server.

A normal backup will include all user, ibay, db, mysql & server configuration data. This includes machine accounts which are involved in the workstations logging into the domain.
As machine accounts are restored, then existing workstations that are already members of the domain will be able to login as usual (without having to rejoin the domain).

Note that for all supported backup/restore methods, you will need to reinstall any add on rpm contrib packages that were installed on the old server, as these are not included in the backup/restore. The configuration db data & custom templates etc, for these contribs will be restored, so you won't need to reconfigure them.

For various contrib backup solutions see,
http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Backup

plus of course the standard built in tape backup and backup to desktop & backup to USB functions.

Note the only recent exception to machine accounts not being restored properly, related to upgrades & backup/restores from sme6 to sme7, where for some unknown/undetermined reasons perhaps to do with the new version of samba, some systems did not allow workstations to log in to the domain after a restore. In that case workstations had to unjoin and rejoin the domain. Search bugzilla for the bug report.

My dilemma/question is this:  My SME server is up to 7.4 with all the updates installed, as of today.  I am planning on retiring this box very soon and moving all of my data (about 10 GB) to a new server.  What will be the effect of loading my backed up data (stored on USB HD) to a fresh 7.4 server without updates?  I have already loaded up the new box with 7.4 and done all of the updates, installed extra contribs (just a few), and it's sitting there waiting to receive the users and all of their data.  Can I restore on this new box now that it's up and running, or do I have to restore the data during the install process?

Oh yeah, after posting this, I found the Affa contrib?  Would you recommend this method for moving data over to new box?

The choice is yours, the standard backup/restore methods will work OK as will Affa.
The usual procedure is to install the OS (sme), restore from backup USB on first boot (when asked), then reinstall contribs. Note you only get asked to restore on the first boot.

If you have already installed the OS, and updated it, it will still be OK to restore from backup (using server manager panel) as long as you have made no customisation eg NOT added users, groups, psedonyms, ibays etc, as these will/may become orphaned when you do the restore (if different). It's better to restore to a clean sme server, and that has ALWAYS been recommended practice.

The reinstall of contribs will pick up the previously restored data settings applicable to each contrib.
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.
