Since I am not allowed to reply in the announcement forum I state my remarks to Having Problems Searching contribs.org? Please Read This. here

Many people are have problems searching contribs.org.

Problem: You perform a search of the forums and get little or no results.
Reason: The search box in the upper right part of the screen only searches the forum you are currently in.
Solution: Don't use that search box.  Click the "magnifying glass" () icon or the "search tab" and bring up the full search screen.
You are making a wrong assumption if you would have tested you would have seen that the search box is aware off the page it is on.

If you search using the search box on the main page, listing all the forums, you will search them all. If you are in a (sub)forum it will search the subforum.

The only time it does not work properly is when you are using the search box when bowsing a thread in a forum, but  hitting revise search will result in a search through the subforum the thread you were reading was posted in.

Therefore I suggest changing, or even better removing, the notice for two reasons:
  • It does not look proffessional using mixed font sizes and different colors
  • The message is incorrect as the search box does search properly (most off the times) you just need to know how it works

This is the problem

we need to search the bugtracker and wiki as well
and possibly change the time limit to the last year

At the thread level, the top right search box has "issues".

If I do a search for magnifying I get zero results.

William

Correct, I had the same issue:

Yes indeed, but the created custom search searches all of the contribs.org domain, to only search the forums the domain should not be *.contribs.org but forums.contribs.org and it is unaware of the page it is requested from :-(

Excellent start.

>Yes indeed, but the created custom search searches all of the contribs.org domain
searching all of *.contribs.org is a good thing, it also gets lists.*

>and it is unaware of the page it is requested from :-(
does this  matter ?

can we change (or add)
>>Use the Search tab to search all forums.
to
>>Use the GoogleSearch tab to search *.contribs.org
and when it's working add the link to bugzilla and the wiki

The idea was to make it similar to the old contribs search. I think centos.org still has the same setup.

It can be made to search

bugs.contribs.org
wiki.contribs.org
forums.contribs.org

Searching *.contribs.org was just an easy way to try it out.

One problem could be with the regularity that google indexes the site.

Would that increase because of having a custom search rule using Google?
