Topic: Changing server name does not change NetBIOS name?

Hello everyone,

I changed the name of our server awhile back from “old.domain.org” to “new.domain.org” using the setup in the “admin” CLI login. I notice that the NetBIOS name remained “old”.

The old name still is listed in the hosts names web page and the “remove” command is not there.

Is there more I have to do?

For technical reasons, the NetBios name is set to the server name upon initial install.  Subsequent changes to the server name will not change the NetBios name, you must do it manually in the server-manager "Workgroup" panel or with DB commands.

Note: I believe you will need to reboot after changing the NetBios name.

OK .. now I really did it!

None of the client computers are now on the domain. I had to go around and re-add them to the domain!

And now I have another problem that was not solved by changing everything back! We have our website hosted externally with a static IP address with is entered in the "hostnames" page. We can no longer access that website! We get the "Page cannot be displayed" error. Other sites work just fine.

So ... our local domain is "domain.org", I have a hostname entry pointing "www.domain.org" to a static external IP. From the internal client I can ping "www.domain.org" and it resolves the IP correctly but no web page or FTP access to it.
