Keeping server up to date
« on: March 14, 2008, 12:14:53 AM »
Hi all,

I've got SME 7.3 all nicely setup and it's working great, and now I would like to keep the system updated.
Is using the "Software Installer" all I need, or do I also need to use "yum" or some other command to keep the system up to date?

Thank you for any info on this.

You should receive reports advising that there are updates available for your server (when they are available).
Using the software installer panel is OK.
It uses yum anyway.
Make sure you click the Reconfigure button when finshed as this does the necessary post-upgrade and reboot events.

The alternative is to use the command line and do
yum update

followed by
signal-event post-upgrade
reboot

Both methods achieve the same end result.

Hi RayMitchell,

Thank you for the info.
For now I'll stay with the "software installer panel", and the "Reconfigure button" at the bottom.

What a great peace of software is this.

Thank you and the rest of the SME team again.
