Topic: www location other than on e-smith

Need a pointer.

My web site is hosted at another location, other than  the e-smith server.

How do I enter the "IP" field for "global IP" given the ISP uses a round-robin approach and hence, provides multiple IPs, potentially, for my www presence?

Inside the domain served by the e-smith, users cannot reach the www site.

I "think" the "global" field should be able to accept the name in lieu of a discreet IP address..

Does this make any sense?

Is the location external to your network or a part of your network ?

The web site is on another network. I cannot enter the "name" of the website which would allow my users to reach the site.

To reiterate, the hosted site uses multiple IPs in round--robin fashion. I need to be able to enter the "name" as in foo.com.hosting.anyisp.net instead of one IP address. The the e-smith web form allows only one IP when configuring a "remote-global IP" address.

Stumped.

What happens if you:

1) remove the www entry from the e-smith server
2) configure the e-smith server to forward DNS requests to your ISP's name server
3) clear the squid cache so that users that have already gotten the wrong page can see the correct one

This can be checked by pinging www.whaterveryourdomain.com from the e-smtih box and see if it goes to the external address.

Yes the e-smith configuration seems to be at odds with itself. In the DHCP setup it is reccomended that IP addresses are not directly hard coded. But if your are hosting your website at your isp you have to hard code the address or you can see it!
