Regional settings
« on: March 21, 2008, 10:33:46 PM »
Hi all,
I'm new to the all server scene, but i'm a quick learner.
Here is my little problem
I installed the server, enabled domain controller and roaming profiles. When i installed the server i choose Romania as the country so, i think the server changes my keyboard layout when i try to login to a computer on the network. This is a little bit of a problem as all the computers have US layout. => problem: non-experienced users find it difficult to login with their passwords because y is swapped with z and many other non-alphanumerical characters.
How can I change the servers regional settings?
Any help would be appreciated.
p.s. i am very unexperienced with servers and linux so please give explicit replies if the answer to my problem is complicated
thanks

config show sysconfig

config setprop sysconfig Language en_US
signal-event post-upgrade
reboot

If necessary change en_US to suit your requirements

config show TimeZone

config setprop TimeZone xxxx/yyyy
signal-event post-upgrade
reboot

Where xxxx/yyyy is the Country/City as per the original list displayed at install time

The server is the console.
If you are sitting at the keyboard attached directly to your server, then log in as the user root, with the root/admin password.
Then type those commands, very carefully of course.
Type exit (& press Enter) when finished, this will log you out.

If you have never done this before I would be extremely careful and make sure of what you are typing in, BEFORE you type it in.

You can also gain command line access to your server from a Windows or similar workstation or from remote locations using the Putty ssh program. You will need to enable remote access in the server manager first.

I strongly suggest you read the manual, linked at the top of these forums, and search google for a Linux basic commands tutorial, and read it.

hi, it's me again....
i am using this server for an IT lab. each pupil has an account and saves his/hers work on the mapped network drive. the problem is that i am unable to see in any way their work, and i should be able to see it. I have tried to set up ibays, but it's no use for me because they do practical jokes to each other erasing their work.
the point is: i need the admin account to see all the accounts (and files contained by them) but a user account must not see another user account. how am i supposed to do that.

thanks in advance, again.

In the future please open a new thread for questions on different topic(s).

AFAIK the admin user is allowed to read every ibay that is created by default on the system.
