Backup and restore sme server
« on: January 12, 2008, 11:06:44 PM »
Hi !

I am trying to restore a backup file to a new SME server.
I took the backup to desktop from a 6.0 version (19 gb), worked fine.
and i try to restore it to a 7.2 sme server. (after updating it is now 7.3)

When I click on restore I get a page could not be viewed in IE and in Firefox it doesnt do anything.

Anyone an solution?

Thanks in advanced.

Stijn

That's because you reach the 2/4GB limit in apache, this is a known bug and has been around for as long as I can remember.

What I would do is burn your smeserver.tgz file on to a CD then install 7.3 and when the console asks you whether you wish to restore yes or no option click yes and restore from there.

I think this is a bit problematic since a CD typically holds 700Mb max.  DVD or even DVD-DL will not hold this amount of data.

I would think the only other option is to drop this file on a USB hard drive and restore that way - if at all possible.

Next time maybe consider using DAR2 but that will not solve the problem this user in now.

Hi all
Let me make sure I understand this topic?
So you can backup to desktop of files larger then 2GB/4GB ? on a linux desktop ? lets say 19GB
But,you can not restore a file larger then 2GB to SME server ? and this is regarding the standard SME backup feature right ??

It seems limited not only for the backup solution, but for other protocols as well.
I had to use this http://www.cgi-interactive-uk.com/splitting_large_files.html to transfer a 3GB file via FTP :(
