Squeezeslave with SME (GLIBC 2.4 required)
« on: April 01, 2008, 08:48:37 AM »
Hi, I've installed Squeezecenter on my SME and it works without no problem.  :-) Got the rpm from slimdevices.com and installed it through yum localinstall. Now I'm struggling with a Linux player called Squeezeslave, which is a terminal software to play music from the server.

I've got it work with java software, but java drains to much cpu power from my system. So that's why I'm trying to get Squeezeslave to work.
Downloaded it from sourceforge and changed the file to be executable, the problem is that it returns following error message:

"./squeezeslave: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by ./squeezeslave)"  :-(

The main problem is GLIBC, checked the yum database but no newer version than 2.3. Any suggestion how to solve this?
There's no doubt that GLIBC can be downloaded from other sources, but what are the risks?

Any chance that SME is going to implement version 2.4 into the yum repo?

No. Not for SME7, anyway.

Perhaps you could try installing one of the older versions available if you not already did that? It might require an older glibc version, although this might be a long shot :-)

Haven't thought of that. But I think older versions includes bugs which I don't want :| But as we say in Sweden, you can't keep the cake, and still eat it... Seems like maybe the only thing left is to wait for SME 8.0? When are the release scheduled?

AFAIK no there are no estimates yet, there is a beta version available however do not use that as a production server, for more information on SME Server 8 keep watching this page: http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server_8
