I think you mean "replaced by a 64 bit OS". Please search here, you'll find there's been significant discussion previously about the pros and cons of developing a 64 bit version.

I am running SME 7.3 as a virtual 32 bit server on Centos 5.1/64 and Vmware server. Works fantastic.

Ok..As CentOS has a 64 bit OS, and the Processors I want to run it on are AMD 64 processors, I can take advantage of the processors..??

I will be using the SME to act a Servers for  a Render cluster for Blender, I use SME for other applications, but it appears maybe I should just go with CentOS 64

I use the VMware contrib and I want to run a virtualised 64bit OS for testing and development. In VMware land, this requires teh host to be running a 64bit OS.

How hard would it be?

Extremely hard.

The entire SME Server core (kernel & apps) are 32-bit. Basically going 64 bit would require a dedicated fork/stream.

SME Server is designed for small-to-medium enterprises (thus the name ) and 64-bit is really not critical to most SME operations.

then install vmware esxi on the bare metal, then setup all the guest you need/wish/prefer.
