Newest Asterisk server for SME 7.3
« on: April 10, 2008, 03:40:10 PM »
Hello !

I am trying to test out different ways of implementing Asterisk server into a virtual SME 7.3

I was using a virtual Astlinux installation, but it apears that when it runs as a virtual installation under vmware, I'm not able to make it to do a proper time syncronization, so it's internal clock is just drifting away.

First test for a replacement was just to add a Asterisk server to the virtual SME server itself. I downloaded and installed from here, and it looks like it is working:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/smeserver//contribs/selintra/RPMS/

Is there some newer Asterisk server installations for the SME server or some other simular servers, that can be configured from text line, using editing of configuration files and no automated configuration tools ? (Like the Asterisk rpms that can be downloaded from the link.)

(As it is easy to give the SME 7.3 the proper time syncronization an Asterisk service running with the virtual SME server will also have the proper time syncronization, I guess.)

Hello Arne

Check out ATrpms (you can google them).  They have a full set of asterisk RPMS for EL4.  WE use them ourselves and they are pretty good.

Kind Regards

Thanks a lot. I were not able to find any usable rpms myself, before I knew some name to search for. Looks like this is the link.  xxhttp://atrpms.net/name/asterisk/

By the way I have tested a dedicated virtual Asterisk installation the latest days, but I guess it will be more reasonable to implement this fuction into the SME 7.3 server.

I am rather surpriced that voip and Asterisk works well enough, when installed as a virtual installation, but I actually I think it works, bether than first expectec.

You will need asterisk, zaptel, libpri and the correct zaptel driver for whichever kernel you are running.
It's documented in our wiki pages here...

http://www.selintra.com/docs/cgi-bin/view/Main/DocChapter03b

Refer to the section entitled asterisk 1.4 install.

Kind Regards
