I have a newly installed SME 7.3 server that I use primarily for email.  Prior to in upgrade (clean install) I could access email from all my remote networks that were listed in the 'Local networks' page.  After the installation of the new software, I set up all my remote networks using the same settings as before.  All of them are functioning correctly expect one.  I can ping other machines on the same network segment as the SME box, but not the E-Smith machine.  For instance; from the external network, I can ping XXX.XXX.XXX.178 (Remote Access interface for MS SBS server) but not XXX.XXX.XXX.182 (E-Smith server) same subnet.  I can ping the E-Smith machine from other external networks though.  I am completely stumped and would Very much appeciate any assistance offered!  I've got people who want their email and they're getting.... uh.... restless.

Thanks, in advance, for any and all comments.

I suspect that you have a routing problem, and you have configured the router address wrongly for one network.

CharlieBrady - Thanks for the response!  I'll double check the routing to be sure but even if the routing isn't correct, I should be able to PING the E-Smith box and I can't.  DNS resolves the IP addresses O.K. so that's not the problem either, I don't believe.  Hopefully, this will shed a little more light.

Thanks, again, for the assistance so far.

No, ping depends on routing being correct, at both ends, and at any router in between.

On the network from which I can not ping the mail server (IP: 74.41.128.182  SNM 255.255.255.248), I CAN ping another machine (74.41.128.178  SNM: 255.255.255.248).  Both of these machines are behind the same router / firewall (which is not using NAT) and use the same subnet.  Is there a reson why whe mail server would refuse to reply from the remote network (Gateway IP: 74.41.128.105 SNM: 255.255.255.248).  I have set as a 'local network' the entire C-class 74.41.128.0 using the default router selected by the SME server at setup.  I have also tried specifically identifying the Gateway IP address  74.41.128.105 SNM 255.255.255.248 as local and the External IP of the Router (74.41.128.106 SNM 255.255.255.248).  Nothing seems to work.  I don't have a lot of hair, but I'm thinking pretty hard about removing what little is left at this point.  The thing I just can understand is why I can ping one machine but not the other.  DNS is resolving properly, the route obviously reaches the correct location....

Thanks for the continued comments.  I truly appreciate everyone's willingness to offer assistanc and I hope that I can do the same at some point.... when I know this system better. :-)
