SME boots of CD then won't install
« on: May 08, 2008, 03:57:07 PM »
I'm stumped. I can boot up and get to the install program but then SME says it can't find the CD in the drive. I've tried 2 different drives 1 a CD the other a DVD. I've also made 2 disks.

Did you checksum the ISO before you burned it?

Did you check your media on the first screen of the install process?

Or have you possibly installed from this disk before?

I had this problem on an install I did long ago but can't quite remember what I did to resolve it. It seems like that was an IBM netvista machine and there was something with the Bios that was non standard.

1) no idea how to do that
2) I'm not given that option
3) no and I just burnt another copy and same thing. The system boots and after the language choice, keyboard etc it says there is no SME CD

wherever you downloaded the install .iso should have had a file like the following in the same directory.

smeserver-7.3-i386.iso.md5sum

This is a text file with the md5sum hash value.

On a windows machine you can use this program:
http://www.download.com/DigestIT-2004/3000-2248_4-10387706.html
to calculate the hash value of the ISO file on your computer and see if they compare.

When you first boot from the CD you should see the following screen:

Thanks

For reasons unknown I go right to the second screen which is language. I'm going to download the iso again.

I would check the MD5 sum of what you have. If they compare it is not the ISO file. It may be a burner problem where you need to cut back your burn speed a couple of notches.

AFAIK the install routine has not changed but the latest disk I have is 7.2.

That's an indication of a faulty CD, or of unsupported hardware.
