OK Im an Idiot
« on: May 21, 2008, 07:12:24 AM »
OK I was going through the process of 'fixing' the post Apr 19th issue http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=40789.0 but screwed it up.

While using a fatal combination of Tab complete and miss typing I have done a

signal-event post-install

Instead of

signal-event post-upgrade

This seems to have nuked by admin/root password.

Is there any way to recover from this short of mounting the disk on another machine and editing the shadow file?
What other unexpected things would this have done?

Thanks.

Dave.

Boot to single user mode

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=31471.0

Then login as root and when you get in, type console and go through your config to make sure things are setup properly, then let it do it's thing.

You could also do a passwd admin and sync root and admin password, then login as admin as it takes you to the console by default.

Dave.

 You dont have to....

You can put the SME Install CD, boot brom the CD, and when prompted, type: "sme rescue"

After... your files will be on /mnt/sysimage.

If you go to /mnt/sysimage/etc, you can edit the shadow file!
