Several newbie questions w/fresh SME 7.3 install
« on: June 10, 2008, 06:14:01 AM »
I just installed SME Server 7.3 tonight and went ahead and started configuring things via the server-manager web interface. So far I like what I see, but I have several questions I hope someone more knowledgable can answer:

1. Is there a way to set the admin user's quota to unlimited (I can't remember off the top of my head if this was possible in the server-manager or not)?
2. Is there a way to disable the email account/access and home directory for a single user? For example, the network will have a slough of unique user accounts, but there will also be a generic user "student" that will just be used for those who do not have a user account setup. I'd like to be able to limit them so that they don't have (or at least access to) the home directory and the email account that is automatically created and associated when the "student" user is created.
3. I'm not sure if this is possible but, is there a contributed module that shows who is connected in the web interface?
4. I need certain i-bays to be only visible to the admin user and/or certain groups. Is this something that can be done easily?
5. Is it possible to setup SME Server so that it can store Windows printer drivers, so that if someone should need to install a network printer, the Add Printer wizard can detect the server has the drivers that are ready to be used.
6. In the Login Script Manager contributed module, is it possible to detect WinXP as well as the others mentioned in the example netlogon.bat?
7. Is there a way to automate the adding or removal of large numbers of users? I ask this because it would be preferrable if I could devise a method so that new students' names/account info would only have to be entered once (they currently use their own database of student data for keeping grades and attendance and the like).
8. Is it possible to update the Roundcube webmail client to the latest version simply by replacing the existing files after installing the two RPMs from the contribs repo?

Sorry for so many questions, I'm still getting the hang of this distro. I really like how easy it is to configure though and how everything just works. I've found lots of answers to questions I had prior to those above here on the forum and have proved to be very helpful. Keep up the good work everyone!

You have to many questions in one thread (I think you are scaring people off)

the quota's are unlimited by default. Any user quota that is set to 0 gives an unlimited quota. As there is no setting for Admin the assumption would be that it is unlimited.

should be able to do this when creating the Ibay with user and group permission settings.

You might try LAT.

That should be achievable by following this How-to from the wiki:

Yes indeed  :)
1984 wasn't meant to be a manual.

Sorry for so many questions,...

Please ask one question per post, and include a descriptive Summary.

open a bug against smeserver-roundcube
i built a new roundcube rpm but it had problems, and didn't have the time to investigate
