New Installation - A few questions
« on: June 13, 2008, 07:55:05 PM »
The possibility exist that I might in the near future have to deploy an Asterisk system with 260 extensions, 10 trunks (Analogue at this point, but they will be converted to 5 x BRI).

The idea is to use:

2 x Dell Rack servers (Dual XEON, with about 2GB RAM each)
6 x Vega5000 gateways (Client wants to re-use their existing analogue phones)
2 x 4-Port BRI (Digium)
1 x SNOM 370 with add-on module for the reception.

OK first question will the above configuration work? and second question is there a script that I can use to create all the extensions, or do I have to add them one-at-a-time?

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi there

The dual Xeons will be fine.   Asterisk won't use much more than half a Gig of the memory but it's always nice to have.

You'll probabaly have to mess around a bit with the Vegastreams to get them to register properly but we've used Multitech 8-port FXS equivalents on many occasions and they work just fine (in the end, SIP is just SIP).

We don't support the the Digium BRI cards, they will only run under mISDN and we don't currently have an implementation for it.  However, we do support the Junghanns equivalents which are, in our opinion, better made and more functional.  You might also consider using a Vega/Multitech/Patton BRI gateway if you don't like the idea of the Junghanns cards as a solution.

370 is fine.

No script for the extensions I'm afraid but, because it is all file driven, we could show you how to do cut and paste on the database which would still be pretty fast.

Will it work?  Yes it will but you'll probably need to do a little bit of fiddling with the Vegas (probably a coupe of hours work).

Kind Regards

Thanks for all the help.  Just a quick question, i I have a PAP2T here that I successfully added SAIL ext as lines on a Samsung PBX.  If I want to put extensions from the Samsung PBX as lines on the SAIL PBX can I do it with the PAP2T or will I need something like a SPA3102 with FXO ports?

You'll need something that supports FXO (like the 3102).  So it would go... Samsung Extension=>FXO-port-on-the-3102=>SIP=>SARK Trunk.

Best
