maybe a basic thing
« on: April 26, 2002, 09:40:59 PM »
all,
Ive currently got Esmith on 1ide 2gig disk. Im looking to install a second for file storage. When I connect the drive and power the box up I understand there are a few commands I need to run from the console I take it to make the file system on the new disk. When that is done how do I tell sme to use disc 2 for the ibay rather than it using the system disc for the ibay and not have enough storage space for the files.
many thanks

anyone had any expeience of speedtouch 510 routers and getting vpn requests through them to a back end SME server?

regards
macca

I was told the you can only add a second drive in a RAID configuration.... at least this is what i understood...

Just change the path in smb.conf and httpd.conf to your mount point of your second disk. Don't forget to great custom templates.

Search the forums for "2nd HDD". This has been discussed before.

And for the record, SME only installs on a single HDD (not counting RAID). However, after installation you can customise SME to support as many hdds as your system can handle (within Linux working parameters, of course), including configuring your second HDD to hold the ibays, etc.

A word of caution, only connect the additional HDDs AFTER you finish loading SME onto the server (otherwise, SME's installer will wipe them all out !).

Hi,

This is something of real interest to me.  I have tried the search suggested but returned no other info than that from this thread.

Is there any other information (at a *REAL* newbie level - :) ) that might help me.

Has anyone documented what a user of 1 week with little/no Linux experience might need to add HDD to SCSI or EIDE systems?

IanT, did you tell it to search past 30 days?  The default is to only search the last 30 days, which is rather limiting.  There's lots of information out there.

Dan,

Brilliant - that'll teach me I need more sleep!

Found http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=19740.msg77819#msg77819 so can now go try it...  I can see me spending time at http://www.linuxnewbie.org aswell...

Thanks again.

if the second drive is big enough
get rid of the first and reinstall on the second
what your doing is not trivial, and will complicate matters in the future

othewise have fun learning.

OK, thanks for the consideration...

Any chance you could pen a few things that might be complicated in future...  I am however enjoying the learning curve - :)
