Quick Pop Email Access Question; any Ideas?
« on: June 15, 2008, 02:29:10 PM »
I am testing with sme server, and love everything about it so far and with a little time on here and researching forms, I have been able to do everything I want. My question today is, my company will be using alot of mobile devices (palms and pda's etc) and we need access to email. using horde is a little difficult on a 3 inch lcd... and when I update all my settings for pop and smtp access, they work in the local wireless network. once I switch to Verizon's network, or even WI-FI outside the network, I can not access email at all. my settings look like this: mail.test-webpage.com for pop and smtp and when I ping the address it gives me my local IP address not the external, like my ISP pop or smtp server would... any ideas is access outside the netwowrk even possible with using pop and smtp? Thanks

Check your email settings in server-manager.

Check your port settings in your mail clients.

Check the method of encryption/authenticating in your mail clients.

If your in server only mode, check what ports are open in your firewall.

any ideas is access outside the netwowrk even possible with using pop and smtp?

Don't think so.

Try pop3s and ssmtp (I think I put the 's' in the right spot - hint)

...........using horde is a little difficult on a 3 inch lcd... .......

Maybe you need this contrib: MIMP :: Mobile IMP
It is IMP (Horde Web Mail Client) customised to fit smartphones/PDA screen.

Check http://wiki.contribs.org/Mimp
