Hi,

Once in a while, Horde doesn't open an email message, just asks what to do with the file.
I'm using SME Server 7.3 as a server and both the user who sent the message and me, who received it, are using kubuntu 8.04 with Firefox 2.
This is exactly what appears:
"you have chosen to open message.php
wich is a: PHP file
from: https://server-ip-address
what should firefox do with this file?
open with [...]
save[...]"

This is not your server, but it is the configuration of your client PC that does not know how to execute/read this page as on this client the OS is not configured to know what program is associated with this file.

You can for instance say that you want to (always) open this file with notepad. If you check the checkbox it should open this filetype on that PC in notepad every time for that user. To go short, your servers behavior is OK, it indicates that it is a PHP file, but the client OS does not know how to handle this, it seems you need to upgrade your knowledge of windows a little bit ;-)

Hi,

My first thought was exactly the same as yours, but when i set the application to the browser (firefox 2 or konqueror), they try to open /tmp/message-1 (in the client) which is an empty file.
So, i tried a different approach: i right-clicked the email message and tried to open it in another tab; what happened was another pop-up window appeared asking to choose the application to open the file.

Just to make sure, i did the same to several other email messages and they all opened in another tabs ok.
Afterall, aren't all Horde/Imp email messages php files?
Also, why this only happened in 2 emails out of more than 10.000? It may be the user exceeded the time to write the email or any other reason.
Just for the record, the two emails were sent with attachments; but it could mean nothing since 10% of all sent emails have them.

I'm going to try to open the same message from other pc's with different OS's just to see what happens and then post my findings.

Horde/Imp wasn't installed via rpm, it worked out-of-the-box (SME 7.3).
I installed notes, calendar, filters and tasks folowing the instructions in the wiki.
Everything works fine, so i feel like just leaving this strange issue alone and hope it keeps happening at an average of only once in 5.000 emails.

Regards

Hi,

After some investigation, i was able to find the cause of the problem:
This only happens when a user sends an email AND attaches a digitalized jpeg file from a HP all-in-one printer.
If other files are attached, even jpeg files but from a photo camera for exemple, everything goes fine.

Does anyone have a clue about why this happens and the solution?

Hi, John

The file type is .jpg which is absolutely common.
However, I'll send you a file tomorrow, for now that office is closed.

I'll also try digitallizing from the same printer to another machine with an OS fresh install, because in the two machines the problem occurs (the only ones in that office) I've made some configurations similar to those made to computers at internet cafés (disabled root in the user account, disabled shell access and others).

Rui,

I see the image just fine.  It has Sharon Stone's and Bill Gates' picture with a quote
that read, "Ordenados vao condicionar indemnizacoes por acidente"

Hi, John

Yes it is, the problem is what happens when you attach that file to an Horde/Imp email and the try to open it.
Please check your email for i've sent you more details.

Best regards

Hi,

I found the problem, and SME Server is completely inocent  :-P:
In each of those two kubuntu machine clients I've created two accounts, one for administrative purposes and other (with some restrictions I've made) for the user to work.
So, logged in with the administrative account and digitalize a file, sending it afterwards by email (Horde/Imp).
Then, when I tried to open it in the sent emails folder, it opened and everything was ok, including the attachment!
Then, just to make sure, I've restarted the computer, and this time logged in with the normal user account, and did the same procedure, but this time the sent email give the error.
So, my conclusion is that the restrictions I've made to the normal user account were the cause of the problem.
