HylaFax and Cypheus
« on: April 28, 2002, 11:34:30 PM »
Hi
I now have my HylaFax server up and running, and I have installed Cypheus client software on the client pc.
The problem now is that the modem not is responding, Cypheus is say-ing -- Modem ttyS0 (49222494): Waiting for modem to come ready –
How can I test the modem?
Under the installation of HylaFax the program found the modem.

Regards
Tue

For testing you can use faxstat at the command line to see what is going on.
You can use minicom to talk to your modem.
Check your /var/log/messages to see if their are any messages with respect to hylafax or faxgetty.

Hylafax is getting pretty good at setting it self up with respect to modems but it still is not perfect. It may require some tweaking to get it to work.

Hi Duncan,
There are no files regarding hylafax or faxgetty in /var/log/ ??
When I try to use minicom, I get this error message;

minicom: WARNING: please don't run minicom as root when not maintaining
it (with the -s switch) since all changes to the
                  configuration will be GLOBAL !.
minicom: WARNING: configuration file not found, using defaults
minicom: cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory

When I was setting HylaFax up, it found the modem or it seemed to find it.

Do you have any suggestions ?

/dev/modem does not exist on the system.

When you open the minicom screen, do a Ctrl-a-z and then O to configure minicom. You want to change /dev/modem to /dev/ttyS0 and then save it as something else ie ttys0. In future you should be able to run minicom ttys0 to get to your modem.

I dont know that running minicom will help much with respect to your problem but it is a place to start.

Hi
I have some more information; HylaFax is sending e-mails with the following error messages:

Mail 1
errors occured while rotating /var/spool/hylafax/etc/xferfaxlog {

stat of /var/spool/hylafax/etc/xferfaxlog failed: No such file or directory

Mail 2
/etc/cron.daily/hylafax:

gawk: /tmp/xferfax5363:300: fatal: cannot open file /var/spool/hylafax/etc/xferfaxlog' for reading (No such file or directory)
gawk: /tmp/xferfax5374:300: fatal: cannot open file /var/spool/hylafax/etc/xferfaxlog' for reading (No such file or directory)
gawk: /tmp/xferfax5385:23: fatal: cannot open file /var/spool/hylafax/etc/xferfaxlog' for reading (No such file or directory)
gawk: /tmp/xferfax5392:23: fatal: cannot open file /var/spool/hylafax/etc/xferfaxlog' for reading (No such file or directory)
gawk: /tmp/.faxcron.sh5357/faxawk5357:49: fatal: cannot open file etc/xferfaxlog' for reading (No such file or directory)

Does this make any sense to any one?

Until you get your setup working properly you wont have a /var/spool/hylafax/etc/xferfaxlog so you get errors when /etc/cron.daily/hylafax tries to rotate the missing logs.

Hi,
I stil have a problem using Cypheus and Hylafax.
Cypheus cant send faxes. In the button of Cypheus are there the following message “Modem ttyS0 (49222494): Waiting for modem to come ready”.
From a commando prompt I have tried to use the modem with minicom and the command “atdt PhoneNummber”  works.
I don’t know what to do!!!

I set up hylafax on SME 4 and 5.1. In both cases I have had to start faxgetty manually. If you add to innitab and reboot, SME will remove it. You can add by way of a template, but I have not bothered to date.

# faxgetty ttys0 works for me. There is documentation on the Hylafax website.

Hi,
I’ am getting frustrated about this Fax programs
In the bottom of Cyphesu it is saying:

HylaFAX scheduler on esmith.f1-support.dk: Running
Modem ttyS0 (492224xx): Waiting for modem to come ready

I have tried to use the modem via minicom and the modem can call another number, so the modem must work.

I have tried the command:

faxgetty ttyS0   But it don make any different.

What can I do ????

Hi,

Did you ask the author at www.urania.com ?

Keep in mind cypheus went commercial from version 2 and beyond....
