SME 7 on ASUS P5K-E Works!
« on: June 30, 2008, 04:55:19 PM »
I recently upgraded my SME server to new hardware and it went far better than expected given the motherboard I chose. To summarize, it was absolutely flawless with no mods and no failures.

Why am I surprised?
Well this is based on 7.3 and the board has jmicron IDE, Marvell, and ICH9 chipsets. The first two of which have historically been a concern on linux. I needed all of these to work in my config.

I had no issues with SATA2 drives, Ethernet via the onboard gigE port, IDE HDD, IDE CDROM.

I also didn't have to issue any compatibility modes as others have had to do.

Thought this might be useful to some.

No... this is not RH 7.3 based... this is Centos 4.6 based. So that´s because you got all this support. The name of this release is SME 7.3.
One previous release (SME 6.01) was based on RH7.3... and nothing from above would works. All SME 7.x  are based in Centos 4.x releases.

I´m happy everything works for you. Keep reading manuals available at http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation  and you´ll be a happy user of SME forever!

Good luck
