getting rid of reboot requirement
« on: July 11, 2008, 01:08:38 PM »
Hi I noticed an old topic on this but no recent comments on progress etc.
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=84.msg288;topicseen#msg288

Does anyone know of any work being done to help get SME to apply upgrades etc. without signal-event reboot? I know it's possible although I appreciate it is fiddly to get sorted.

If anyone has any pointers I would be happy to investigate/participate in making this happen.

No, and as you might have noticed the thread is from 1999. The reboot is done to force regenerating and reloading all configuration files for all services. If you want to implement an other mechanism to make sure this all happens I hope you have a lot of time as this will be a pretty heavy task as you will need to re-engineer the inner-workings of SME Server AFAIK.
If I may ask, what is the problem with a reboot every now and then?
