Can anyone save me time by indicating what rpm's are needed in order to compile source code only applications. (./configure ... make....make install) I had it working somehow for a while now all I have is a mess of RPMS and a broken compiler. I don't want it for development work just to install a few pieces of software I would like to use.

Thanks

Justin

Hi,

Can you post what is needed for me please as this is also something that I need to do but due to space limits on my HDD I would rather not go out and install all and everything in the DEVelopment section. If you have a list of the minimum needed to be installed I would apreciate it.

Many thanks.

Nobody can define the set of packages that you will need to do development, because it depends exactly what package you are trying to build what packages you will need. If you can't find ready to use binary RPMs on one of the many archive sites, then I recommend that you do development on a RedHat system, and build RPMs (or failing that, tarfiles) there.

Was hop[ing you where not going to say that as the HDD in my "spare" system crashed and burned, the only Linux systems I have currently have here  are a SuSE 6.1 and my e-smith box.

Thanks.
