yes, i've read the wiki article,
http://wiki.contribs.org/Printer_Drivers_for_Windows_Workstations the main thread leading up to the wiki article:
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=32450and everything else before and after, and have tried everything else. i think it is a permission issue.
i just set up the sme as a standalone server, i am wanting to try it out as a print server, because, well, windows print sharing stinks. here's the finer points:
1. we have an AD domain, the sme server is not on it
2. i created 2 network printers, with ip addresses on the sme server. i can see the printers from my windows workstation when i unc to the sme server
3. when i unc to the server \\sme it prompts me for a username/password. i've put in the admin user/pass, which gets me to see the shares and shared printers. i still can't, however, load drivers.
4. i created a separate user/pass to try it with that, still no luck.
5. i created a group, added both admin and created user into the group, tried the "chgrp -R domadmins /home/e-smith/files/samba/printers" command with said group, still no luck. i can read/write to shares when i give either of the credentials above, but can't load printer drivers.
is it because samba security is set up as user? if so, i log in and am accepted with credentials, it still doesn't work with printers.
is there a way to set the printers security so guests, or everyone can upload drivers? i would rather open it up too far to figure out the main issue, then lock down later. this is a locked down network, and it is just printing that this will be used for. i just need the printing to work when we script the printers with a logon script.
any help is appreciated.
thanks!
