migration from fedora5 to sme3
« on: July 24, 2008, 11:06:05 AM »
Hi,
we have approx 3000 users in our mailbox, mostly inactive.
We decided to install sme server and transfer all user related info, files, etc. to sme server.
some users are in mysql, and others are local users, using sendmail, and apprx 100gb mail data.

so what will be the easiest way to migrate?

for example; i can create a text file on fedora5 system which includes all users names and any other user info. And create a simple script to create those 3000 users on command line interface. But what will be 100 gb of data and their permissions :)

also hardware may be problem during this migration. We have to do this migration in 2 steps.
First install sme server on temp. hardware, migrate all users and prey :) This hardware may be a core2duo cpu, 1-2gb ram and 250gb sata2 disk.

Second install sme server on old hardware which is a good server, then restore from temp hardware.

Three tools you might want to look at.
