server-manager navigation mess.
« on: July 25, 2008, 10:01:14 PM »
Dear all,

after a update some time ago the navigation of the server manager is just a mess.
as far as i know there is no direct solution for that. (if there is please let me know)

But by this i want to propose a new function in the server-manager.

It could be nice if the administrator could group / order the links himself.
this could also be easy to group the most important contribs toghether so that the system operator can work easily.

the thing i have in mind is something like this:
In the site navigation there will be blocks and icons.
the blocks are draggable (up down) and renamable
the icons will be draggable between the blocks.

in this way we all can make our own navigation menu, and the settings like we want are stored in the sql database.

an example of something like this can be found here:
http://x3demob.cpx3demo.com:2082/frontend/x3/index.html
Username: x3demob
Password: x3demob

I hope other people also like this function so that can be build in to the next update / release
The sky is not the limit, But when I reach the sky, for sure I will not try to go to the limit.... (donated $25,- upto now)

How many links to forum posts would you like? (I think I could supply 100) but I will give you two.

How about a search next time? You seem to hang around here long enough to know the forums a little (judging from th enumber of messages).

New Feature Request should be entered in the bugtracker and not in the forums. If you submit a new feature request it would be nice if you could send in a working piece of code for it as well as the amount of developers and development time is very small.

The server-manager is not meant to be like cPanel for which you provided a demo. It is a well known package used by ISPs, which SME Server should not be used for, it is intended to be a Small Business Server.

About the ordering, this would be very hard to implement as this is coded into the templates, the devs have taken great care to think of sane categories, if you do think they should be otherwise I suggest you open a bug for that and state your wishes, again most preffered, with a working example/code against SME Server.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than its worth ~ Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)
